Reading Group 1:
We meet once a month in members’ houses, on Wednesday afternoons. The choice of books is made on the first meeting, when members bring their own recommendations to the group, and includes at least one

book of non-fiction or biography. Each session also includes the discussion of one short story chosen from an agreed anthology. Meetings are informal, but we ask the member who has chosen the current book/story to make a brief introduction, including background to the author, before the discussion begins.

Reading Group Classic to Contemporary This monthly reading for pleasure group, meeting  from October 2018 to March 2019, will explore genre development across three different literary categories.  The genres are crime fiction, comedy fiction and science fiction.  Two meetings will be devoted to each genre.  The first discussion, for each genre, will focus on a classic novel written in the 20th century, while the second discussion will examine a contemporary work published within the last ten years.
This is a structured reading group where participants introduce each session and a central theme is explored.  Previous book group discussion experience is essential.

Reading Group European Literature: European novels in translation, old and new.  Presented by members of the group followed by tea and discussion.  Come with copies of European novels (preferably short) you would be happy to read and discuss.  I will present the first one, from Norway: please read 'Hunger' by Knut Hamsun for 1st Oct.
