Nigel Holden

In 1920 two German officers, who had been held in the Raikeswood POW Camp in Skipton from 1918 to 1919, published an illuminating 300 page memoir about their experiences.

This thematically designed course will be built around translated extracts from the book with an accompanying commentary.

Learn in some detail about the routines of camp life from the POWs’ arrival to departure, their attitudes to their captivity and their captors, their ways to relieving the tedium, their reaction to the Armistice as well as their impressions of the Skipton and Yorkshire of 100 years ago.

This course will include a guest speaker.
